The French Institute of Thessaloniki with the support of the French Institute of Greece and the collaboration of NOESIS Science Center organizes the 1st Science Festival in Thessaloniki, an annual event held since 1991 in France, under the auspices of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, in order to promote science to the general public.<\/p>\n

The aim of the Festival is to enhance the exchange of knowledge between researchers and citizens, to highlight the work of the scientific community and to encourage young people to get involved in science. The central theme of the 1st Science Festival is “Water in the vortex of the climate crisis”, as recent disasters both in Greece and other parts of the world increasingly demonstrate how much the water cycle is affected by climate change. Exhibitions, documentary screenings, scientific lectures, educational workshops compose this event both in Thessaloniki and in Athens and Patras.<\/p>\n

As part of the Celebration, a scientific exhibition of the Research Institute for Development -IRD, entitled “Water at the heart of science”, will be presented, which will be presented on the ground floor of NOESIS, from November 6 to November 19, 2023. It is a richly illustrated and educational presentation of the most important works of French water research, from Morocco to Bolivia, the Mediterranean basin to the rivers of India.<\/p>\n

In addition, Aissa Maiga’s documentary “Marcher sur l’eau” will be screened, which brings to the fore the struggle for access to water in a village on the shores of Niger.<\/p>\n

School workshops and workshops for children and adolescents will have a dominant position, with the aim of informing and raising their awareness on the critical issue of managing the climate crisis.<\/p>\n

Finally, distinguished scientists from the two countries will participate in a Greek-French Scientific Meeting, discussing global challenges and sustainable solutions related to water in the new reality of climate change.<\/p>\n

The 1st Science Festival in Thessaloniki is co-organized with NOESIS Science Center, the collaboration of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), the School of Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the support of EYATH and is under the auspices of the Embassy of France in Greece.<\/p>\n
