Highest honor in Europe for NOESIS

NOESIS received the highest honorary distinction by receiving an honorable mention from the European Network of Technology Centers and Museums (ECSITE – The European Network of Science Centers and Museums) for the refugee program that it has been implementing since September 2016.

This distinction is a milestone in the history of the institution and the award took place during the annual ECSITE conference held this year in Porto, Portugal.

This is an action that started with initiative and special interest both from the President of NOESIS, Professor Mr. Michalis Sigalas, and from the Vice President Professor Mr. Manolis Pleionis. As part of it, refugee children and their companions watch a screening of a film at the Planetarium, translated into Arabic, guided by an interpreter at the Museum of Technology, while each participant is offered a snack.

Through this program, NOESIS hopes to offer our tested fellow human beings the opportunity to make virtual space travels, to get acquainted with the positive sciences and technological developments through an educational and at the same time entertaining tour of the Museum, to participate in a cultural activity. and may look to the future with more optimism.

NOESIS with this program performs a project of offering to the refugees and aspires to contribute to the formation of a climate of hospitality, their adaptation to the way of life and their integration in the social fabric of the country. Solidarity and understanding, effort and coexistence are the words that characterize this action that is planned to continue with undiminished intensity.

It is also noted that, given the government’s policy to include refugee children in Greek school education, the program is planned to be adapted accordingly and to host groups of refugees and Greek students who will be provided with the same program in a different language (June 2017).
