Inauguration of IDEA in the Library of Alexandria

The inauguration of the IDEA exhibition at the Library of Alexandria took place with great success on Tuesday, November 9, 2021.

The event was greeted by: Prof. Mostafa Elfeki, Director of the Library of Alexandria, Ambassador Nabila Makram, Minister of Immigration of Egypt, Α.Θ.Μ. Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Prof. Ioannis Chrysoulakis, General Secretary of Hellenes Abroad and Public Diplomacy, Prof. Abd El Aziz Konsowa, President of the University of Alexandria, Prof. Michael Sigalas, President of NOISIS and Prof. Vassilios Koukousas, President of the Hellenic Institute of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Studies in Venice.

The keynote speaker was Prof. Christos Arambatzis, of the Hellenic Institute of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Studies in Venice, on “The Myth of Alexander the Great: The Testimony of a Byzantine Manuscript”.

This was followed by a tour of the exhibition by Eng. Ayman Elsayed, Director of the Planetarium and Scientific Center of the Library and Thanasis Kontonikolaou, General Director of NOESIS.

This exhibition is the biggest cultural event of the year for the Library of Alexandria and NOESIS, creating expectations for long-term and continuous cooperation in matters of culture, education and research. It is a bridge and union of two important bodies in Egypt and Greece, to highlight two of the most important cultures in world history and a springboard for the transfer of academic, cultural and educational knowledge and know-how between the organizations operating in Greece and Egypt.

During the presence of the exhibition at the Library of Alexandria, parallel events and actions will be co-organized with NOESIS, which will be broadcast online by both organizations. For more click here.

The inauguration required the assistance, support and valuable assistance of the Ministry of Development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior (Macedonia Thrace), the Consulate of Greece in Alexandria and the organizations of the Greek community operating in Alexandria and Alexandria.

The production of this exhibition was done by NOESIS in 2016 with the exclusive donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

The exhibition will remain open until the beginning of January 2022 and is free to the public.
