Wheels to scale – a collection of miniatures by Michalis Gavezos at the Museum of Technology

First appearing around 1900, miniature cars quickly outgrew their original purpose as toys and became a collectible hobby for adults.

Miniature cars combine art, engineering, and nostalgia, making them a beloved collector’s passion around the world.

The Museum enriches its automobile exhibition with a new, special section dedicated to these small models. The section presents 600 miniatures from the collection of Michalis Gavezos, through which the historical development and diversity of miniatures over a century unfolds.

The exhibits cover themes such as Greek-made cars, cars in cinema, racing cars, agricultural and commercial vehicles, reflecting each era through its technology and aesthetics.

Entitled “Wheels Under Scale,” this new section invites young and old alike to discover the exciting world of miniatures, highlighting the close relationship between technology, culture, and collective memory.
