An educational activity by NCSR Demokritos at NOESIS

On April 28, 2023, a team from the National Center for Scientific Research (NCSR) “Demokritos”, visited NOESIS for the implementation of an educational program, which dealt with the way students perceive and talk about values.

The program was designed in the framework of the action “Values in Ancient Greek Drama” of the European project VAST H2020. During the program, Dr. Dora Katsamori, associate researcher at NCSR “Demokritos”, involved 44 students of the B’ Lyceum from Apostolos Pavlos Schools, in a discussion in order to reflect on the meaning of values and their role in decision-making. Drawing on an excerpt from the text of Sophocles’ “Antigone” and the help of exhibits from NOESIS’ digital archive, the students interacted and collaborated in order to design mind maps, linking moral values between the past and the present.

With the creative collaboration of the director of the schools, who accompanied the students, the result was a fresh understanding of how values drawn from Ancient Greek tragedy are perceived in modern society.

This collaboration between a research center, a museum and a school created the appropriate learning framework, in which students collaborated creatively, interacted and developed relevant argumentation, cultivating 21st century skills.
