The IDEA exhibition at the Library of Alexandria

The IDEA-Ancient Greek Science and Technology exhibition is to be presented in the emblematic space of the new Library of Alexandria, Egypt (www.bibalex.org), from the beginning of October 2021 until the beginning of January 2022.

The new Library of Alexandria “Bibliotheca Alexandrina” is an attempt to revive the eponymous ancient Library, under the auspices of UNESCO, the Egyptian and Greek governments.

As a place deeply intertwined with ancient Greek culture, it is the ideal destination for the presentation of IDEA, an exhibition that highlights the greatness of ancient Greek culture and its impact and contribution to the foundations of knowledge and the evolution of modern Western culture.

The public of Alexandria will have the opportunity to browse the exhibition for free.

IDEA- Ancient Greek Science and Technology
This is an important portable exhibition aimed at promoting Greek culture abroad. It presents the evolution of Greek thought that created a series of scientific, technical and artistic fields. At the same time, it deals with all those technological achievements, which brought the ancient Greek world to a globally recognized level.

The production of this exhibition was done by NOISIS with the exclusive donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation in 2016.

Initially, in September 2016, IDEA was presented for one year at the NOESIS facilities in Thessaloniki. Then, from March to December 2018, it was presented to the Greek world of the Foundation of the Hellenic World in Athens. Finally, from June 2019 to August 2020 it was presented at the Cultural and Congress Center Cankarjev Com in Ljubljana.

The modern way of presenting the exhibition and the use of new digital media, challenges the visitors to get to know the world of ancient Greek science and technology. It is aimed mainly at youth and school groups, families and non-specialized visitors, being a cultural event for everyone. In an intelligible and entertaining way, young and old learn about technological achievements of 3,000-2,000 years and about scientific fields, which provided solutions to everyday problems and needs of people, from antiquity until today.

Rich surveillance material and animations (3D), narratives of ancient faces, holograms, sounds, miniatures and of course models of technological findings and reconstructions achieve a multidimensional reconstruction of the ancient world.

Overall, the exhibition achieves the complete presentation of ancient Greek technology and science, through a variety of interpretive tools, which include audiovisual productions, documentaries, interactive applications and exhibits-models.
